Victorian Swimming Pool & Spa Building Regulations & Updates

Are you the lucky owner of a Victorian swimming pool and spa?

Did you know that if you own land that features a Victorian swimming pool and spa, it’s your responsibility to ensure that it is registered with your local council?

If you don’t know much about the rules and regulations surrounding your Victorian swimming pool and spa, Exotic Pools is here to help lighten the load and keep you in the loop. Before you sink or swim, let’s dive into some of the details.

What you need to know

If you own land where a swimming pool or spa is located and is capable of holding more than 30cm of water, it must be registered with your local council. This applies to permanent pools, above-ground, indoor pools, spas, wading pools and even inflatable relocatable pools.

When registering your pool or spa with local council, you need to fill out the necessary paperwork and pay the required fees. If you have a pool or spa that was constructed prior to November 1, 2020, an information search fee may also apply.

Be mindful of dates and deadlines

When it comes to deadlines for registration application, it differs depending on the type of pool or spa. For the permanent structures, the deadline is 30 days after the date of issue of an occupancy permit or certificate of final inspection. If the pool/spa is relocatable, you must apply within four days of the pool/spa being erected.

Regulations

It’s also super important that you get your hands on and lodge compliance for all safety barriers. A new compliance certificate is required to be lodged every four years.
