The owners of this Balwyn property dreamed of a new French Provincial-style home with extensive recreational facilities that would take full advantage of their block. With more than 20 years of experience, Exotic Pools was the obvious choice for the construction of the tennis court and swimming pool.

Exotic Pools and its parent company Ultracourts worked closely with the home’s architects to design the multipurpose outdoor space. Cleverly arranged to maximise the site, the rear of the property includes a full-size tennis court, a lap pool and a golf practice enclosure.
The slope of the block called for extensive excavation and foundation work to accommodate the new facilities.

Prior to laying the concrete base for the tennis court, the team installed two in-ground 20,000-litre concrete water tanks to supply water for the pool and garden.

The team then applied ‘Ultra Surface’ – a specially developed commercial-quality synthetic grass – to the concrete base before infilling with lush green silica sand. An access lid for the water tanks was also incorporated into the tennis court surface.

Black PVC chainwire fencing was erected on two sides of the court, with draw curtains on the sides that meet the pool and the house. This was done not only for aesthetic reasons, but also to provide access to the court from the other outdoor facilities.

A basketball ring was installed on one of the chainwire fenced sides of the court, along with four 1000-watt environmental metal halide lights on black powder-coated square towers, which illuminate the court.

Along the length of the court is a fully-tiled 9.9m x 3.1m concrete lap pool and 1.9m x 1.4m spa. Fully tiled in ceramic mosaics, the pool and spa are illuminated by Spa Electrics underwater LED lighting.

The pool is equipped with solar heating and a fully-automated Remco pool cover, while the spa features gas heating, a blower and six jets. Frameless glass fencing separates the pool area and tennis court, without impinging on the view.

A covered alfresco area sits at one end of the pool, while at the other Ultracourts installed a golf practice enclosure, equipped with two golf putting holes within the finished surface.

Established in 1995, Exotic Pools is a division of Ultracourts, and together the companies are able to offer a complete project package that often encompasses the construction of a swimming pool, a tennis court and the surrounding paving.

A member of both the Master Builders Association of Victoria (MBAV) and the Swimming Pool and Spa Association (SPASA), Exotic Pools constructs individually-designed, high-quality indoor and outdoor inground concrete swimming pools and spas in accordance with SPASA guidelines. As well as designing pools, the company can also work with architects and designers to build pools and spas from existing plans.

Committed to providing the highest standard of workmanship, all Exotic Pools projects are backed by warranties and after-sales service. The company’s aim is to design and construct swimming pools that are high-quality in both appearance and function, yet in keeping with its mantra of affordable elegance.
