The weather is warming up and that means swimming time, so if you’re on the hunt for 10 tips to get your pool summer ready, Exotic Pools has the splash for you.
Whether you have let your pool go over winter or only kept maintenance to the bare minimum, the good news is it’s not too late to get it up-to-scratch for swimming.
Before you step, jump or dive in here are your 10 tips to get your pool summer ready.
1. Inspect your pool
If your pool hasn’t been used throughout winter, take this opportunity to check for any cracks, leaks or any other damage that may affect its use.
2. Give it a good clean
Remove any debris such as leaves and any dirt from the pool using a pool net. Brush the walls and floor of your pool to remove dirt and help prevent any algae from growing. Then give the pool a good vacuum.
3. Check and clean filters/empty skimmer box
For everything to be operating efficiently, check and clean any filters and empty your skimmer box of any built up debris.
4. Test the water
If your pool has been sitting unused for a long period of time, it’s important to check the water. Depending on the type of pool you have, you can use a pool testing kit to check the pH levels, alkalinity and chlorine levels.
5. Give your pool a shock
Depending on the state of your pool, you might need to shock it. Shocking the pool involves adding a high dose of chlorine or another chemical to kill bacteria, algae and any other contaminants.
6. Check all pool operating equipment
All equipment needs to be in good working order for your pool to be functioning effectively. Check everything, including the pump, heater and any other additional features such as lights and replace any damaged parts.
7. Top up pool water
Evaporation is a big cause for a decrease in water levels. Fill your pool up to the required level (usually about halfway up the skimmer box) so the pool pump can operate effectively.
8. Plan ahead
To prevent the growth of algae, especially in the summer heat, add an algaecide to your pool water. Algaecides work by destroying algae spores before they can grow and spread.
9. Check your pool accessories
If you have accessories such as ladders, diving boards, slides or water features, inspect them for wear and tear. Clean them thoroughly and ensure they’re secure and safe to use. This is also a great time to check the condition of other pool toys.
10. Is your pool safety up-to-date?
There’s no denying the importance of pool safety. Make sure that your pool fence and gates are secure and functioning properly and all other safety aspects (CPR chart, etc) are fully visible.
